My name is Pat Loika.

I'm a writer, illustrator and podcaster based out of San Diego, CA. I also dabble in photography and way too many other activities to list.

This is where I do my personal blogging, with random thoughts, nonsense, art and photos.

I just realized that I’ve been doing my podcast for 3 years now.
Part of me can’t believe I’ve kept that thing going for as long as I have. Part of me can’t believe that I got to have all kinds of amazing people to be a part of it as well. It’s gained me a new notoriety in the industry that I love, and got me so many amazing new friends.
To everyone who’s listened, thank you. To everyone who took the time to join me and do the show, thank you. An even bigger thank you goes to Derek Coward, who’s helped me keep this thing going for all this time. A big thank you also goes out to my best friend Chris Maze, the show’s cover designer. He helps make the show stand out.
Doing this is a lot of work. Scheduling, recording, networking…it’s work. But it’s the kind of work that I don’t mind, because it’s essentially become a way for me to talk to people I like, and people I admire. It’s a way for me to learn, and gain new context over things that I’ve already enjoyed. It’s become a way for me to gain new friends, and an avenue to talk comics with people who appreciate it as much as I do. A place to keep it all positive.
It’s made me a better person, and helped me a gain an even greater appreciation for the amazing people that make and enjoy comic books.
Thank you all for your continued support over the years, and stay tuned, as the best is yet to come.

On podcast feedback…

Whenever I invite people to my podcast, it’s usually because I’m a fan of their work. And when I have them on, and I talk to them for whatever length of time I have, I usually express how I feel. I mean, if you have the chance to talk to the person who makes your favorite thing, wouldn’t you tell them how much you love and appreciate it?

My podcast exists to celebrate the things I like. It’s a way for me to learn and get people excited about the same things I’m into. I’m not a journalist, a critic or a pundit, and I’m not going to pretend to be one.

I’m a fan, and I’m pretty fucking proud of that.

So if you email me to tell me that my show is too positive and too nice to my guests, then I suggest you find something else to listen to. There’s enough negativity and misery in the world, and I won’t be adding to that.

Loikamania 105: Brian Michael Bendis

Brian Michael Bendis returns to talk about his current projects, including his final arcs on the Avengers titles. We talk about his creator-owned work, like Scarlet, Powers and Takio. We talk about Marvel Now’s origins and get into his upcoming X-Men book. We also talk about the wackiness of the internet, and so much more!

I would also like to dedicate this show to the memory of a good friend, Frank Barile III, who I met through Brian’s board on Jinxworld. Frank was a great artist, musician and friend. I’ll miss him. Rest in peace, Frankie.

Cover art by Mark Bagley, design by Chris Maze.

Music by Steve Earnhart and Frank Barile III with Nat Purcell.
